The sky is the limit when it comes to stereo upgrades on your classic. The first issue to determine is your budget. If you have little money it is best to go to best buy and get the best bang for the buck. In this article we are going to show you some higher end solutions to better quality sound. We will start off with the highs and mid range speakers. These are typically installed in the doors and dash area as they are directional speakers meaning they have to be facing the occupants to be heard correctly.
Obviously we saved the lowest for last. Lows and drivers are important. 10 inch drivers are the best low note sound with no distortion. Many younger ears want the lowest notes to vibrate their buddies house and neighborhood but we are talking top quality notes. JL Audio has W-6 and long throw W-7 drivers that are state of the art. They need 250 watts clean power for each one. Many sub boxes are available to fit these speakers but of course if you want to have the best sound and have it hidden more then likely you will have to go with 8 inch drivers under the speaker deck. Vibration and keeping parts from rattling in your classic is important.
Amplifiers are made much smaller and run cooler now so they are not a problem. Alpine, JL, all have nice amps. Head units with single CD player most all come with a cord for ipod attachment and full controls for systems.
Remember that any Auto Restoration project will cost some money to install a quailty stereo but you will be impressed if you spend the money and go for it and if you are builing a Hot Rods project you may want to install Dyna Mat insulation on the floors and doors for a much better low distortion sound.
